Department of Pharmacognosy & Phytochemistry

The Pharmacognosy department deals with study of drugs derived from plants, animals and mineral sources. The faculties of the department have expertise in various areas of herbal research. The department has two big labs equipped with all necessary facilities to execute isolation, identification and interpretation of medicinally potential plant candidates. Department have well established herbal garden with more than 100 medicinal herbs and plants.

Department of Pharmacognosy

Department of Pharmacognosy is engaged in the study of the drugs from natural products i.e plant, animals, marine and other life origins. Research areas include extraction, isolation, characterization, and biological studies of phytoconstituents using animal models. The department also deals with development and standardization of novel herbal formulations and cosmetics.

The Department of Pharmacognosy, Bihar college of pharmacy provide extensive theoretical as well as practical knowledge in extraction and isolation of various secondary metabolites, formulation, and standardization of herbal cosmetics at its undergraduate level.

The students undergoing post-graduation are trained and skilled with every aspect of pharmacognostical and phytochemical research and were given a clear insight on herbal drug development, isolation, characterization of active constituents, bioprospecting, development of nutraceuticals and cosmeceuticals of natural origin.

 

Medical Plant Garden:

The institute has developed a medicinal plant garden in the institutional campus. The medicinal plant garden has around 100 species of the medicinal plants

In collaboration with other departments, research divisions of the faculty and other research centers the Department of Pharmacognosy can provide activities associated with herbal drug standardization, herbal formulation development to facilitate commercialization, and establishment of pharmacological activities of natural products.
